On June 29, 2026, Chhaharee Farm celebrated National Rice Day (Dhan Diwas) with the active participation of students from the College of Natural Resources Management (CNRM) and activists from the Alliance of Agriculture for Food (AAF).

The celebration provided an opportunity to explore the cultural, ecological, and practical importance of rice cultivation while promoting sustainable and agroecological farming practices. During the program, participants discussed and observed different approaches to improving soil fertility and supporting sustainable rice production. Key learning topics included manure preparation, azolla integration in rice-based farming systems, and the importance of planting dhaicha (green manure crop) before rice transplantation to enhance soil fertility, increase organic matter, and reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers.

Participants also engaged in rice-related activities, interactive games, and other recreational sessions, creating a joyful and collaborative learning environment. The celebration brought together students, farmers, and food and agriculture activists, encouraging knowledge exchange and strengthening collective commitment toward sustainable, resilient, and farmer-centered food systems.

The National Rice Day celebration at Chhaharee Farm highlighted that rice farming is not only an agricultural practice but also an important part of Nepal’s culture, food heritage, rural livelihoods, and agricultural biodiversity. Through hands-on learning and collective participation, the event promoted agroecological approaches that contribute to healthy soils, sustainable rice production, and food sovereignty.
