Chhahari Farm Pvt. Ltd. has been selected as one of the winners of the GreenShift Nepal Project’s Sustainable Packaging Program (SPP) for its innovative concept of developing packaging materials from roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa), a locally available plant resource.
The final pitching and evaluation event was held on 8 October 2026, bringing together 21 enterprises and ideators from Bagmati, Lumbini, and Madhesh provinces. Following months of learning sessions, mentorship, business development, prototype refinement, and pitch preparation, five enterprises were selected for direct financial support to advance their green business ideas.
Chhahari Farm’s initiative explores the potential of roselle fibre as a locally sourced alternative for sustainable packaging. Roselle is already cultivated on marginal land at the farm, where its leaves and calyces are used to produce marketable products. Exploring the use of its stems for fibre-based packaging offers an opportunity to add value to an existing farm resource, reduce agricultural waste, and develop alternatives to conventional plastic-based packaging.
As a youth-led agroecological enterprise, Chhahari Farm aims to connect sustainable farming with green innovation, demonstrating how locally available biological resources can contribute to environmentally responsible production and enterprise development.
Through the GreenShift Nepal Project, the selected enterprises will receive continued guidance to strengthen their business models, improve market readiness, build networks, and explore opportunities for growth and partnerships.
The GreenShift Nepal Project is funded by the European Union and implemented by CREASION in partnership with Restless Development Nepal and other partners.
This recognition marks an important step for Chhahari Farm in advancing its vision of combining agroecology, local resource utilization, and green entrepreneurship to contribute to a more circular and sustainable economy.
